A residential extension to Hawthorne, an existing historic homestead built in 1857 in Spreyton, on Tasmania's North-West coast.

The extension includes large open-plan entertaining areas, a deck, a commercial kitchen and back-of-house area, and a carport/storage space. It connects to the existing homestead via a glazed walkway, with landscaping and a small creek incorporated into the design to form a natural barrier between the old and new sections of the home.

Deliberately contrasting the existing homestead in form, style, materials and colour, the extension sits 800mm off the ground — appearing to float, and standing apart from the original homestead and its history.
