Coastal Renovation & Extension, Ulverstone

A renovation and extension to an existing 1970s home in Ulverstone, on Tasmania's North-West coast. The design extends the form and architectural language of the original home, rather than working against it.

The project centres on capturing ocean views and creating a large, central social space with direct access to a semi-covered deck — ideal for indoor/outdoor coastal living. Extending to the north brought all-day sun into the main living areas and allowed for a garage beneath.

Landscaping was integrated into the design of the extension to soften the building's edges and strengthen the connection between the internal living spaces and the outdoors.

Steel sheet cladding was selected to handle the projects coastal environment with minimal maintenance , interlocking panels with expressed joints were used to create lines that match the roof cladding and draws attention to the portal frame form of the building
